About

Justin Shin (he/him) is a California-based composer, arranger, orchestrator, and vocalist for games, film, and media. His music can be heard in award-winning games, recognized at festivals such as the Independent Game Festival, IndieCade, Games For Change, and more.

A reflection of his eclectic tastes, Justin’s works traverse multiple musical aesthetics and genres, spanning from groovy, jazz-funk tunes to anxiety-inducing, synthetic soundscapes to sentimental orchestral themes. He draws inspiration from timeless Japanese composers such as Yoko Shimomura, Joe Hisaishi, and Yasunori Nishiki.

He humbly began his ventures into writing music by transcribing and arranging his favorite tunes from video games like Kingdom Hearts, Final Fantasy, and Fire Emblem. Justin would go on to compose for media, working on the soundtracks of (val)iant, The Cleaner, Last Broadcast, and more. (val)iant won the award for Best Student Game at Games for Change Awards 2023 and has been nominated at the IndieCade Festival 2023.

In his free time, Justin plays JRPGs, tries on too many bucket hats, noodles on the bass, and explores new cafes.
